Cause and Effect of Unemployment
Unemployment is a terrible thing, but unfortunately it is an everyday normality. There are a plethora of reasons why someone ready and able maybe without a job. Every action comes with a consequence however, the causes and effects of unemployment are very potent in life. For example, an individual may lack the proper skills for the hand at task so their job will be terminated. The same goes for if they are absent often or late, that will not be tolerated. A person is considered unemployed if they are fired from their job due to budget cuts and they are in waiting to get their job back. As well, there may be an abundance of workers but not enough jobs to match; or the mirror opposite may occur, there are plenty of jobs but workers do not have the right skills or experience to work for the job. Either way, unemployment will begin to rise steadily and this will not help the world’s economy get better. Younger individuals tend to have more issues finding jobs and this aids the unemployment, the younger individuals usually have lack of experience and then they cannot find jobs, in turn they cannot earn the proper experience to receive better jobs.
The consequences of unemployment can effect more than the person who was without a job, it can go as far as effecting the family and the income of the family. Living without a solid income is a very difficult way to live. The individual that just lost their job is open to a spectrum of emotions, anger, sadness, confusion, stress and all these emotions can really break a person down. In the case that finding a job takes longer than originally expected, the individual may not have enough money in the bank to make all their ends met. This only adds stress they are already going through. The person maybe in between odd jobs or is searching for a job, and this also adds stress and strain to relationships. A stressed and worried person will not be one to party with friends or spend big for a family get-together.
Unemployment also effects the economy itself. When there are jobs available, but not the properly skilled people there for the job, productivity suffers a decrease. This all creates a chain-reaction, everyone involved is affected. The employees may suffer burn out from all the excess work, the clients may feel abandoned if their needs are not met and they will go to other areas for their needs to be met. The company themselves will lose revenue.
The causes and effects of unemployment effect everyone in one way or another, every action has a consequence, whether it be good or bad.

Problems of Unemployment
There are three types of unemployment, viz., labor class who are not educated, educated persons without possessing any technical qualifications and technical persons such as engineers and technical. Let us implore them one by one.
In case of labor class there are lakhs of people who earn their livelihood daily and gather themselves on some specific place just to find daily employment somewhere. They are not disappointed to a great extends. Sometimes they find employment and sometimes they return to their houses without finding employment. They are habituated to adjust themselves with the circumstance, though they also become irradiated and disappointed sometimes when problems of food and clothing arise before them. This is the case with general labor of the cities. As regards the agriculture labor of the village, they’re also not disappointed to a great extent as they find seasonal employment very easily in the farms and fields of big farmers.
Since the number of educated persons is increasing day by day, we are not in a position to afford a venue of work for this growing number. As such our educated persons are very much disappointed when they wander dark roads in search of employment. As they do not possess any technical and practical training, they only try to find clerical job which are not sufficiently according to the increasing number of educated persons. It has become a very ticklish problem which is being faced by our government.
As regards educated persons, possessing technical qualifications, they tend to be frustrated when they do not find employment despite their best qualifications. There can be in no two opinions that they find their employment very easily on the merits of their technical qualifications, but according to the increasing number of such educated persons also become victims of unemployment. Education is a very good thing and one must be educated but the irony of it is that when we offer educations to young people we are not in position to offer jobs to them. This is the very cause of disappointment among our educated youths.
The educated youth should change their mind also and they should think of self-employment, rather than searching jobs and services hither and there wasting their energy. In this way very serious problem of unemployment may be saved to a great extent.

Unemployment is one of the most serious problems facing developed nations today. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of reducing the working week to thirty five hours?
It is unquestionable that rising unemployment is one of the most pressing issues in the industrial world. One solution that has been put forward is to cut the working week to a maximum of 35 hours. However, in my view this solution is rather controversial and other solutions need to be found.
It is fairly easy to understand the reasons why this proposal has been made. The reasoning is that if workers are not allowed to work for more than 35 hours weekly, then employers will be forced to engage more staff. There would be at least two advantages to this. Not only would unemployment be reduced, but the working conditions of employees on very long shifts would also be significantly improved. For example, a factory employing 300 manual workers doing 10 hours a day might employ 450 workers.
There is also, however, a strong argument not to implement this proposal. This argument is based on economic competitiveness. If a company was forced to employ more workers to produce the same amount of goods, then its wage bill would rise and its products might become more expensive and less competitive compared to companies with longer working weeks. In this case, it is possible that the company either might become insolvent or it would have to make some employees redundant. As a result, the intended benefit to the personnel would not happen.
In summary, we can see that this is clearly a complex issue as there are significant advantages and disadvantages to the proposal. My own personal view is that it would be better not to introduce the shortened working week because it works only in theory and not in practice.

Is it better to say : if the company were……
in unreal present conditional singular subject must use were
Ask 10 different teachers and you get 10 different opinions. In current usage, however, I would suggest that either “was” or “were” would be equally acceptable here.
This easy has answered the question in a straightforward way. easy to understand.
It’s a good example for us, especially the way you present the pro and con arguements.
sir,u r a good teacher
First of all, let me thank you for your great essay, secondly, I would like to ask a question about personal opinion in this essay. My understanding is that this essay belongs to Argument/ Advantage or Disadvantage type, the questioner does not ask for opinion but you have given your opinion in the introduction as well as in conclusion. Please could you kindly clarify me, that it is OK. I shall be very thankful.
A super late response I know but better late than never I suppose. My answer would be that in general terms that I think that it can be a mistake to over-categorise different types and essays and say that this type of essay requires this type of answer and that one a different one.
In this instance, I would say that an advantage/disadvantage essay still requires you to give an opinion. It is only that the opinion that you provide is what you think are the advantages and disadvantages. Indeed, thought about like this almost any IELTS essay requires you to give an opinion/state a position and these should normally be clearly outlined in your intor and conclusion.
Thank you very much for your explanations how to write essays and also for your perfect examples. Your site really helps me in preparation to my exam!
Don’t you think that I shouldn’t put my opinion in this essay,because they didn’t ask me (do you agree or disagree) ??
I have been reading your suggestion for a month and keep practicing as you suggested. Your expertise have left no room for weaknesses if we keep practicing accordingly. I have my IELTS exam next week. it will be highly appreciated if you comment on the essay I have written below.
In many countries today there are many highly qualified graduates without employment. What factors may have caused this situation and what, in your opinion, can/should be done about it?
“Unemployment with advanced degrees is one of the major problems across the world. In this essay, I am going to examine this situation and propose suggestions for the authorities to deal with it.
These situations are heavily seen in third world countries. There are various reasons that many postgraduates are still unemployed. My personal view is that most of the qualified graduates do not find their sector in their country, as the companies still work on traditional grounds. Sole proprietorship can be an example of this in which there is no room for expansion and a single person holds all the powers.
Another problem is that universities designed their curriculum on anticipation. They tell students what jobs do the market demands. But the industry of those jobs is too small and is already satisfied. Evidence of this is provided in early 2000 in our country, that a foreign graduate started a campaign operation badar. He started teaching IT education in every area of the country. But later the number of students rose to such a level where there would no room left for new vacancies.
There is almost certainly no one solution to this complex issue. However, one is that the governments should address this problem on sincere grounds. They ought to analyze the problem and take necessary actions. Welcoming foreign investment is another good initiative in dealing this issue.
This is a complex issue with no clear answers as there is no best way defined to tackle it. However, if this issue is addressed on serious agendas by both educational institutions and authorities we can hope that it will be resolve in a short span of time.”
It would be great if someone can comment on my take on this essay question so I know how to improve and get band 8.0.
It is unquestionable that unemployment is one of the most serious issues in the industrial world. One suggestion that has been put forward is to cut the working hours of full time employees to 35 hours per week, in lieu of the traditional 40 hours. Although it seems straightforward to execute, its impacts often lead to the debate whether it is the most suitable solution.
It is fairly easy to understand why this proposal is agreed by some parties by examining two of its main advantages. Firstly, its immediate result is encouraging work places to employ more staffs to fill in for the lost of 5 hours per week per employee after the cut. This relationship implies that the level of unemployment might be reduced quite significantly if a large proportion of employers took this idea of board. In addition, the second advantage of this arrangement is that it may help increase job satisfaction especially for the case of those with a rather mundane job, such as data entry. Reducing their working hours then, increase their productivity and quality of work.
There are also two strong arguments why this might not be the holy grail solution. The first is that managing more employees can be immensely more challenging. Companies must strengthen their internal controls to avoid fraudulent activities. This can be illustrated by how multidivisional companies are willing to pay a large amount of funds to ensure data security. The second reason why this may create a problem is because the increase in the number of employees directly results in a greater internal competition. Often, competitions relate to dishonesty and disruption of harmony in work places.
In summary, it is evident that this method is controversial as it entails notable advantages and disadvantages, which needs to be analysed more carefully by each company considering it.
In recent years joblessness has been increasing gradually.we can see this situation happen in majority of countries. In this essay I will discuss the reasons for this rise and consider what practical solution are available..
thank you for all these essays. ur essays are truely great,and informative…

What are the cities with the highest rate of unemplyment in the world? What are the economical reasons for such high rates?
One of the socio-economic problems of the current stage of development of the United States is the problem of unemployment. The unemployment entails the squandering of the main productive force of the society – the labor force – on an enormous scale, a significant reduction in the national income and country’s potential gross product. Apparently, with incomplete use of available labor resources, the economic system works without reaching the limits of its production (Rampell 49) capabilities. Thus, the unemployment rate is one of the key indicators for determining the general state of the economy, for assessing its effectiveness and because of this, the problem of unemployment in the United States is becoming extremely topical.
The unemployment is a macroeconomic issue that has the most direct and substantial impact on every person living in the country. It is necessary to understand that unemployment represents a part of the population of the country consisting of people who have reached the working age, are unemployed and are in search of work during a given period of (Rampell 49) time. A mass unemployment during the economic crisis of 2008-2009 was a real catastrophe for the American people. According to the contracts of the Department of Labor, the unemployment in September 2009 was 9.8% and since that time it continues to (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1) grow. The level of unemployment is much higher in the states, for instance, in Michigan it exceeds 15%. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in the U.S. Department of Labor regularly publishes data on the scale of unemployment according to the state and industry in the United States. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics does not take into account those who are not able to find a full-time job or are forced to engage in low-skilled work. The high unemployment rate in the state of Michigan is connected with the problematic condition of the automobile industry, in California – with the budget deficit exceeding $ 25 billion, in Utah – with the features of religious attitude of Mormons to (Rampell 53) work. It is also known that employment centers and labor fairs work better in Washington state and Virginia which has contributed to the lower unemployment rate. The whole list of cities in the United States with the highest rate of unemployment can be represented as follows:
- Yuma, Arizona (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 23.1%);
- El Centro, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 22.7%);
- Ocean City, N.J. (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 12.3%);
- Visalia-Porterville, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 12.2%);
- Merced, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 12.1%);
- Yuba City, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 12%);
- Hanford-Corcoran, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 11.7%);
- Atlantic City-Hammonton, N.J. (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 11.3%);
- Fresno, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 11.2%);
- Madera, Calif. (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 10.7%);
- Modesto, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 10.6%);
- Stockton-Lodi, Calif. (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 10.5%);
- Bakersfield, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 9.6%);
- Vineland-Bridgeton, N.J. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 9.2%);
- Yakima, Wash. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.8%);
- Longview, Wash. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.8%);
- Salinas, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.5%);
- Dalton, Ga. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.3%);
- McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.2%);
- Redding, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.1%);
- Rockford, Ill. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.1%);
- Danville, Ill. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.1%);
- Lake Havasu City-Kingman, Ariz. (November, 2014 unemployment rate – 8.0%);
- Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, Calif. (November 2014 unemployment rate – 8.0%) (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1).
During the 2009 recession, unemployment covers all sectors of the economy and services in the U.S.: not only industry, construction and transport, but also trade, finance, business, and professional services, and even the tourism and entertainment (Rampell 62) industry. The largest dismissal of the state occurred in such industries as manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, the least dismissal happened in the agriculture, in the mining and oil and gas (Rampell 62) industry. At the same time, the highest unemployment rate that was recorded among the U.S. residents who were between the ages of 16 and 19 was 18.3%. In the United States, there is a high level of unemployment at the age of 55-59, which is associated with the differentiation of admission to (Rampell 63) work. This discrimination over the age drives people into a chronic stagnant form of unemployment and leads to a de-qualification. The number of unemployed men was almost two million more than women. The number of unemployed men was 7.2 million which is 57.8% (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1). In February 2009, the level of unemployed women in the United States was approximately 5.25 million people who are 42.2% (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1). In the active labor market, a relatively large number of people for one reason or another fall into the ranks of the unemployed during the year. However, the duration of such periods in the United States is short. The United States of America holds the first place in the world regarding the number of jobs created annually. Starting from 2009-2010, in the United States “American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan” was designed in order to help in the short term to combat unemployment, and in the long term to ensure the continued economic (Aaronson & Brave 25) growth. The plan is a combination of two methods: a large-scale budget investments in the economy and reduction of the taxes. The total cost of this project was $ 800-900 billion (Aaronson & Brave). The United States concentrated on the task of improving the structure of working places for people. The programs that have been developed are aimed to optimize the use of workers’ potential. The basis of such programs in the United States is an individual approach to each employee in the company, providing opportunities for in-service training in the workplace on an individual plan and advising on career issues as (Aaronson & Brave 31) well.
In this paper, the socio economic nature of unemployment was analyzed, and the characteristics of unemployment in the U.S. labor market were examined. While studying the problem of unemployment in the United States, the reason for the sharp increase in the unemployment rate in 2008-2010 was identified. It related to the decline in production and structural transformation in the economy as a result of the crisis phenomena. It should be noted that the policy to combat unemployment in the United States is quite effective because it is able not only to reduce unemployment to a normal level but also to ensure a sustainable economic growth.

Cause & Effect Essay: Unemployment
Unemployment is the one constant throughout history. Despite changing technology, the underlying principles of why unemployment occurs remain the same. It’s also what continues to this day. The three main causes of unemployment are economic conditions, new technology, and increasing populations.
Economic conditions are the main factor in unemployment. The 2008 economic crash caused unemployment to rise dramatically, and the same has been true of every economic slump throughout history. An economic crash causes businesses to fold and posts to disappear. If there isn’t enough money coming into a company, it can no longer afford to pay its employees.
Once a company fails to pay its employees it has no choice but to let them go. Sometimes, it reduces its size in waves of redundancies or it simply shuts down.
New technology also has an impact. As conventional tasks become more automated and more convenient, some employees find their posts obsolete. With no reason to continue paying them, they lose their jobs as the job simply disappears. It’s why the Swing Riots occurred in Britain during the 1830s. Workers fought against the introduction of threshing machines which would make many traditional jobs disappear.
In the 21st century, the main threats are robotics and increasingly intelligent computers. Professional filing systems which require teams of people to maintain are now on a single computer server controlled by a single person. This is the form of unemployment which happens during prosperous times when companies can afford to invest in new technologies.
Increasing populations often lead to unemployment at a slower rate. The numbers of unemployed have increased over the past few decades as the population has accelerated. To an extent, the increasing demand for goods and trade balances out the population increase, but businesses often fail to deal with the short-term consequences.
Initially, many young humans aren’t yet old enough to need the economy to enlarge itself. It will take at least 20 years before the economy needs to respond to growing demand. Children generally don’t figure in the size of the economy or the need for jobs, on a large scale. It’s only when they become adults things start to change.
And it doesn’t always keep pace with the number of adults in society. There are simply not enough employment roles for the number of applicants.
New technology and an increasing population generally go hand-in-hand. If technology remained the same the increasing population wouldn’t matter as the jobs would form naturally. The rescinding in the number of roles from multiple sides overwhelms the employment market and we finish with a shortfall in jobs.
Unemployment seems like a complicated issue as people attempt to take complicated formulae into account. Really, it’s caused by the same three things it has always been caused by. Poor economic conditions, new technological advances, and an increasing population have and always will continue to perpetuate the problem of unemployment.
The Best Essay on The Topic Unemployment
Unemployment In world
Unemployment is a worldwide curse. It is recognized as the mother of courtliness ills. It encourages dishonesty, corruption and falsehood. It develops dark side of human character. There are different causes of unemployment like poverty, over population, in-effective education system and industrial development. Similarly there are various steps to check this giant problem. No doubt the government is fully aware of this problem but the quick remedies are needed to check this problem.
Poverty is the main cause of this evil. Broadly speaking it is difficult to expect truth, nobility and honesty from a person who cannot have two square meals a day. He loses sense of self-dignity as he has no sense of security. He is worried about his survival rather than morality. Therefore, poverty is a great danger to the state.
The rapid growth of population is another cause of unemployment. Along with the growing population this problem has also developed. It demand s a quick check. Unemployed people are always dangerous to the security of the state.
“It is better to employ people to dig holes and fill them rather than not to employ them at all”.
Our education system is also defective. It produces a large number of students who are taught purely literary of theoretical education. There is hardly any provision of technical or vocational education. This drawback makes the students dislike the manual work. Therefor, majority rushes to the cities and increases unemployment.
Lack of interest in industrialization is also a cause of unemployment. Industrial units provide employment to both educated and uneducated people. Therefore, we should encourage industrialization.
Our social system is another cause of unemployment. In our society many depend upon few. It has been observed that majority of family members are dependents. This trend has given rise to unemployment.
Unemployment has now become such a dangerous economic. Social and political problem that it has endangered the security of the country. The law and order situation in the country has also been affected. Therefore complete programme is required.
First step should be to revise the social system of our country. More skilled persons can be trained to help their families. This would be a good help to remove unemployment.
Our faulty education system requires a complete overhauling. We have to take full advantages from science and technology to cure this problem. All the people should be trained so that the cities should not be overcrowded because it results in unemployment.
Industrial development can also relieve us from the miseries of unemployment. There is no lack of manpower, cheap, labor, raw materials and mineral resources in our country, but the misfortune is that they are not scientifically used for the benefit of common people.
In the end we can say that unemployment is a real problem. We know its causes, we know its remedies, therefore. It becomes the constitutional obligation of the government should make plans to solve this problem.
Unemployment Problem And Solution (Essay Sample)
Unemployment problem and solution
Employment is central in our lives. However, the issue of unemployment is a major setback to the majority of the countries. The rise in technology in the twenty-first century has worsened the issue of unemployment. Hundreds of employees are daily rendered jobless by machines, computers, and robots. Interestingly, inventions substituting the employees are deemed cheaper and reliable than physical employees. However, despite the rise in retrenchment and substitution, the population of the world is growing daily with many qualified graduates in the field. This prompts an unemployment issue as a residual problem affecting the economy. Politically, leaders are legislating policies to increase the number of active age group into the workforce. The uncontrolled population has significantly been cited as the primary cause of unemployment. The menace of unemployment irritates many energetic youths. They remained exclusively disappointed after graduation. This social problem contributes to raising in criminal activities in the society. Terrorism and drug trafficking are just but one such activity.
Elementary, the high cost of maintaining workers in the firms is the major contributor of unemployment. The majority of the private sectors are no longer interested in human resources. They rather adopt the use of machines to perform activities meant for human beings. Moreover, the government has outlined the compensation guidelines of rewarding human resources. Machines are better options for the private institutions which aim at profit maximization. Despite the high cost of installing machines in the firm, economically, it is deemed friendly and cost-effective since the company undertakes it once in a lifetime. The maintenance cost of machines is incomparable to that of rewarding human resource which requires allowances and other monthly stipends. It is, therefore, the sole responsibility of the government and political activists to advocate for low cost of living and workforce maintenance to enable private organizations to employ graduates.
The primary fundamental suggestion for graduates in quests for employment needs to undertake more practical training. It is absurd that the majority of the current systems lack touch with the practical application of their skills and knowledge. They are extremely excellent in theory aspect of their career but have minimal confidence and skills to apply their skills. The employers in the markets need qualified staffs with extreme experience who will improve quality service delivery under little supervision. In regards to this, all graduates should undertake compulsory training in various reputable firms to gain relevant skills and experience in their career.
The other solution for unemployment problem is for the states to supports individuals who are out of employment. There is need to create supporting groups tasks with the responsibilities of ensuring that all the unemployed individuals are monitored. Such groups should be funded by the government to provide basic awareness to those who are out of employment to initiate small scales business. The groups should also have some small kitty where youths can get soft loans with no interest to develop their business and earn a living. Lastly, having a formal group for the unemployed people will enable them to be confident and develop positive attitude in life as they could share their problems and seek possible solutions. Lastly, the government should provide chances for apprenticeships for the graduates to enable them to have a better start in their career. In conclusion, despite unemployment is seen as a bigger global challenge, the task of creating new opportunities for the youths and better living standards relies on the government and the political will to find the solution. The government should talk the unemployment problem with utmost sobriety and finds its solutions.
